eSign PDF's AI field detection uses two approaches. For clean digital PDFs with proper form metadata, it reads the field structure and highlights signature, date, and text fields automatically. That's the easy case. For scanned PDFs (the messy ones from banks and government), it falls back to visual detection using Apple's Vision API. It's looking for signature lines, 'Sign Here' text, date fields, checkboxes, anything that visually looks like a fillable area. It's not perfect on every ugly scan, but it handles most of what gets thrown at it. And when AI misses a field, you just tap anywhere and place your signature manually. The fallback is intentional. Reliable manual placement beats AI that guesses wrong and puts your signature on the wrong line.
