A practical guide

Short answer

Open the form and tap a blank line. If a keyboard appears, it's a fillable form: tap each box and type. If nothing happens, it's a flat form, a picture of a page: you place text boxes on top of the lines instead. You can sign both and send them back from your iPhone. eSign PDF handles both kinds, with no account, for $59.99 one-time (US).

Fill a flat form in 4 taps per line

1

Tap the text tool

Choose text. Tap just above the line you want to fill.

2

Type and size it

Type your answer. Make it smaller if the space is tight; pinch to zoom in first.

3

Tick boxes and add the date

Use the check tool for boxes and the date tool for date lines, so they line up neatly.

4

Sign last, then export

Sign once you have filled in everything else. Export locks it all into the page.

Before you send it

  • ✓Scroll every page. Forms often hide a second signature or initials on the last page.
  • ✓Write dates the way the form shows them (MM/DD/YYYY on most US forms).
  • ✓Leave boxes that don't apply blank, or write N/A if the form asks.
  • ✓Need a break? Save it to Files and finish later.

FAQ

Why can't I type in the boxes?+

The form is flat, a picture of a page with no real boxes. Add text boxes on top of the lines instead.

How do I edit a PDF on my iPhone?+

If you mean filling in blanks and signing, you're adding to the form, not changing its words. Tap a blank to type, or add a text box on a flat form.

Can I save it and finish later?+

Yes. Save the form to the Files app and open it again when you're ready.
